The house is located in Waterloo, in a housing estate whose urban planning and architectural characteristics shape a landscape, a coherent and homogeneous whole.

The challenge of the project will therefore consist of bringing about the necessary and indispensable transformations to meet the needs of the client, while ensuring that the aspects of the subdivision are preserved, without altering its character.

It quickly becomes apparent through this project and its study that the urban planning constraints and limitations imposed by housing developments are not very flexible in adapting to the evolving lifestyles of their residents. Indeed, living spaces are very limited.

The project will therefore initially consist of enlarging the ground floor living spaces which have become too narrow, and creating a new workspace that is necessary, a consequence linked to the emergence of Covid.

Secondly, the upstairs sleeping areas will be redesigned and reorganized to offer more spacious, comfortable, and flexible living spaces, with the possibility of adding an extra bedroom. This will be further enhanced by the option of opening up to the outside with the addition of a small terrace.

To achieve this, the volume of the existing veranda will be completely transformed and enlarged.

Its dimensions will be preserved and its alignment will coincide with the alignment of the neighbor's veranda.

A slight extension upstairs will also be proposed to allow for the addition of a new, comfortable bedroom.

Unfortunately, discussions with the local council did not allow us to obtain this roof extension. It requires us to preserve the architectural style of the dormer windows and roof, and to maintain their alignment.

It is unfortunate and very regrettable to note that the urban planning and architectural constraints and obligations of these housing developments, but also in general, sometimes do not allow, or very little, the possibility of adapting our living spaces and our homes to the evolution of the lifestyle of their occupants.
